Alright folks, we’re iterating again! Because why not, right?
I’m trying out a new goal strategy, and through that, I’ve identified two books that I want to read. The first one is meant to help enhance me improve the ‘community’ aspect of my life, and the other is meant to help me get more in touch with my spirituality. So first off–
You Will Find Your People by Lane Moore
This one was published quite awhile ago and has been sitting on my shelf collecting dust. I ended up with a copy because a friend of a friend was dating the author, so we got to go to the book launch. My copy is even signed. I picked it back up because while I have a pretty good social life overall, most of it comes by way of my partner. Which isn’t wrong, exactly–I truly believe that his friends are my friends, too. But I realized recently that I haven’t had a best friend in awhile (aside from my wonderful partner). And I’d like to change that. I’m thinking maybe this book will help.
The Witch’s Book of Self-Care by Arin Murphy-Hiscock
I know, it’s cheesy. But, I have sort of vaguely engaged in witch-like practices for awhile, and I miss religion. I’ve found a church that I plan to attend semi-regularly, but I’m helping with the kids, so I don’t engage with the sermon or even take communion (which is the best possible way I could think of doing church!). So I’m trying to come up with some personal practices, and I’m curious to see if I’ll find anything good in this book.
Dubliners by James Joyce
And now a fun third choice! I’m actually leaving for Ireland tomorrow (!!!), and I’ve never read this book or any other Irish authors, really. So I decided to grab this one and take it with me on my trip to help me feel a little immersed. I’m going to visit the Museum of Irish Literature as well, and hope to grab another (perhaps more contemporary) book.
Like I said, new format! We’ll see how this works.
