When I tell people I’m a writer, one of the most common responses I get is ‘I could never do that, I don’t like to write. It’s too hard.’ And I always end up in this weird spot, because I’m thinking, yes? Writing is super hard! I don’t really like to do it either!
Of course, that’s sort of a broad generalization–sometimes, I love writing. Sometimes, it’s my favorite thing to do. But I can say that about lots of things that I also don’t like and find very hard at other times–like going to the gym, or researching community partners, or driving. All things I love to do, mostly, but also kind of hate depending on the day, because it’s tedious or difficult or I’m just ‘not in the mood.’
Today, I really did not want to sit down and write this blog. But I did it anyway, despite kind of hating. So if your relationship to your creativity, or your job, or whatever else, is complicated, just embrace it. Things we love can sometimes suck.
Love and gratitude, as always.
