Have you ever considered that you might be the thing holding you back?
Unfortunately, our brains don’t always know the difference between reality and what’s just in our heads. There’s real science behind this (at least there is according to a therapist I had awhile back). Apparently, if you’re stressed and can’t talk to your person about it (partner, best friend, parent, etc.), you can imagine talking to that person and your brain will treat it as if it’s happening. If you imagine your person telling you everything will be alright, your brain will calm you down as if you’re actually hearing those words. Pretty cool, right?
But of course the flipside of that is, your brain also believes the bad stuff you tell it. Like you’ll never finish your creative project, or everyone will laugh at you if you try to share your passions. The more you tell yourself that, the more your brain internalizes it until you can’t even fathom a different possibility.
So, be careful what you tell yourself. And maybe focus on believing in what you can do instead of thinking about all the reasons you can’t.
Much love and gratitude.
