I’m not usually an affirmation person. Generally speaking, I find them kind of corny. But, every now and then, I stumble across run that really works for me, like this one:
I define my own standard of excellence.
Excellence is one of my core values, so that is a standard I am holding myself to confidently–if you aren’t doing something with excellence, why do it? And while I’m proud of my pursuit of excellence, I also recognize that because of it, I’m sometimes very hard on myself. So the idea of defining excellence for myself instead of using outside metrics was weirdly liberating. Because, while I do think everything should be done with excellence, there are things outside my control that could mean my standard of excellence needs to adapt.
